Wasmer Field and Gabor Track

Long ago, the space where Wasmer Field resides was a parking lot and buildings. In 1983, the property was dedicated as Wasmer Field.

Since then, the field has been renovated. In 1998, it was turfed, allowing students to practice nearly year-round without damaging the field. In the summer of 2022, Wasmer Field received a complete makeover, as it now features the school's logo at midfield. In the end zones, one end has the school's name 'Saint Ignatius,' and the other end has the team name 'Wildcats.' A brand new digital scoreboard was added as well to enhance game day experiences.

The last varsity event to take place on Wasmer Field was on October 25, 2023, when the Soccer Cats defeated North Olmsted 8-0 in the District Semifinal. With fall athletics concluded, construction began on Vision 30, which saw the demolition of the century-old Carroll Gymnasium and the power plant to build DiSanto Hall. DiSanto Hall will feature an expanded academic wing and new athletic facilities that lead out to Wasmer Field.

Wasmer Field remains open for team practices, intramurals, and summer camps but will not host another athletic event until the renovation is completed in the fall of 2025.

Wasmer Field plays host to multiple teams, including soccer, football, lacrosse, and rugby. In 2022, Wasmer Field hosted the first-ever varsity football game for legendary football coach Chuck Kyle's '69 final regular season game, which the Wildcats won 10-7.

In December 2022, the track was dedicated to the late Dale Gabor '66, who was the Saint Ignatius Athletic Director for 25 years and a longtime languages teacher. Gabor also ran track as a student-athlete at Saint Ignatius. The signage can be found on the side of Murphy Gym, which overlooks Wasmer Field.
