CLEVELAND, OH - On Saturday, the Saint Ignatius Wildcats took on one of the top teams in the state, with Olentangy Liberty coming into town. Despite being shorthanded and missing players such as
Michael McManamon,
Will French, and
Henry Ferguson, the Cats left Krenzler Field with an impressive 9-3 win against one of the best teams in the state.
The Cats were led in scoring by sophomore
Zander Boland, who, in his first game back from injury, notched four goals. Sophomore
Colin Roubic also grabbed a hat trick with three goals.
Jack Whalen and Oliver Golebewski also each scored a goal. Senior
Callaway Connelly played the entire game in net, only giving up three goals.
In the first quarter, both teams were scoreless until the final minute, when the Cats went up 2-0 to end the quarter. At half, the Cats were up 5-0, the first time they shut out an opponent at half all season long.
It wouldn't be until about halfway through the third quarter that the Patriots would notch their first goal of the game, making the score 6-1. Both teams would exchange goals in the final quarter, with the Cats coming out victorious, 9-3.
With the win, the Cats improve to 12-6 on the season, continuing their four-game win streak against in-state competition. The Cats will be back in action on May 19 at 7:00 p.m., when they will host the winner of Stow-Munroe Falls and Green in the Regional Final. The game is set to be played at Krenzler Field at Cleveland State University.
