AJ Short ’09 joined the Wildcats staff in November 2019 after four years at Solon High School, where he served as the Strength and conditioning Coordinator. He oversaw comprehensive programs for 16 different sports.
Prior to his stint at Solon, Short served as an Assistant Strength Coach at Akron, assisting in all facets of Football Strength and Conditioning. He has also served in a number of different roles at Cal-Berkeley, Webber International University, Ohio State, Louisiana-Monroe, and Westside Barbell.
Short, who earned his undergraduate from JCU and a master’s in Exercise Physiology from Akron, holds a certification in strength & conditioning from the (NSCA), is a certified yoga instructor.
Short was a member of the 2008 Football State Championship team at Saint Ignatius and would go on to play for the Blue Streaks on the Offensive Line. In 2012, Short earned All-OAC honors, starting in every game his junior year and being an All-OAC second-team offensive lineman in his senior season.
Along with his work with the Wildcat Strength and Conditioning program, Short is the Director of Operations for the Rugby program. He monitors day-to-day operational systems and processes to provide visibility into the goals, progress, and obstacles of key initiatives within the Rugby program, working alongside Head Rugby Coach Dan Arbeznik '00.
