Freshman Wildcats Honor Coach Restifo with 43-0 Victory Over Football North

In a heartfelt tribute to the late coach Nick Restifo, the Saint Ignatius Wildcats showcased a powerful performance, overwhelming Football North with a 43-0 score on a sunny Saturday at Brooklyn High School.

BROOKLYN, OH - From the outset, the Wildcats displayed a strong offensive and defensive game, evident from the halftime score where they led 23-0. Key contributors included running back Billy Cole, who scored two touchdowns, followed closely by wide receivers Jake Lamirand and Jackson Greiner, and quarterback Jacob Mikin, each having touchdowns of their own.

The game was about more than just scoring, as the defensive unit, led by Matthias Michalek and supported by Jayden Jordan, Cal Laschinger, and Tommy Roche, prevented Football North-Clarkson (ONT) from gaining any ground. Defensive back Pete King capped an excellent defensive performance with a pick-six late in the game.

The great significance of the game was its dedication to legendary offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Nick Restifo, Hon. '19, who had been a part of Saint Ignatius for 44 years and passed away earlier in the week. Players and fans felt his presence as the team played a nearly perfect game, honorably reflected in the powerful words of their head coach Matt Rechin:

"Coach would have been very proud of these young men today. They worked hard all week to prepare the way they knew coach would expect them to prepare and went out and played a damn near perfect game. There is so much to be excited about with this Class of 28 with great days ahead."

Special teams also had moments to shine, with Ian Phiri connecting a 35-yard field goal, complementing the day's impressive scoreline. Continuing their momentum, the Wildcats are optimistic as the future is bright with this class. This game completed the season for these Wildcats, who played one of the most demanding freshman schedules in the state. The season was highlighted by a dominant victory over St Edward and an impressive triumph over Archbishop Hoban. The Cats finish with a 6-3 record in their first season at Saint Ignatius.
