TALLAHASSEE, FL - The track and field season kicked off on Saturday at Mike Long Track at Florida State University with some impressive performances from the Wildcats. For their Spring Break trip, the track Cats made their first-ever appearance at the FSU High School Relays.
In the 1600-meter run, junior Maxwell Friedrich, the reigning Runner of the Year in Ohio, earned a fourth-place finish in Heat Four with a time of 4:18.29. Senior Peter Spellacy placed 12th in Heat Three, clocking in at 4:41.43, while senior Aiden Walter finished 13th in Heat Two with a time of 4:36.80.
In the 3200-meter run, Spellacy continued his strong showing, securing a fifth-place finish in Heat One at 9:47.74. Senior Cael Luecke also had a solid performance, finishing 10th in Heat Two at 10:06.96.
The 4x800 meter relay team ran a strong race, placing second in Heat Five at 8:12.45.
The 4x100 meter relay team, consisting of Owen Colwell, Jackson Bennett, Luke Simms, and Danny Raffin, stole the show in Tallahassee and placed first in Heat Two with an impressive time of 42.58.
Overall, it was a strong start with solid individual and team performances for the Wildcats in Florida, competing against some of the nation's best track and field teams. The Cats will return on Saturday, April 5, competing at the Ned Weingart Relays at Cleveland Heights High School.
