CONCORD, OH - The Saint Ignatius Golf Wildcats began the postseason in the OHSAA Sectional Tournament at Quail Hollow Country Club. The Varsity Blue squad had a phenomenal season that featured six first-place finishes and a second-place finish at the Kiely Cup.
The Wildcats had one final tune-up the day before at the Archbishop Hoban Invitational at Firestone Country Club, where they would place second out of 18 teams.
Head Golf Coach
Kevin Neitzel '90 would set his Sectional lineup that features
Jackson Sommer,
Kyle Malicki,
Fitch Farina,
Patrick Myers, and
Ethan White.
The top four seeds in the sectional round qualify for the District Tournament. The Wildcats would come in second, just one stroke behind the University School Preppers, and would be Sectional Runners-Ups.
The team would finish with a combined score of 298, a terrific performance on the course to open the postseason run. White would place first overall individually, shooting a 69. Farina would place fourth overall, shooting a 73. Malicki would place eighth overall with a 77. Myers would shoot a 79 for 12th place, and Sommer finished in 16th place with an 81.
The Wildcats' focus now turns to Monday, October 6, when they compete in the OHSAA District Tournament. The competition will begin at 9:00 a.m. at Pine Hills Golf Course in Hinkley, a fitting place for these Wildcats, as it is one of the courses they play on in July for tryouts.
