OHIO CITY, OH - For a third consecutive season, the Saint Ignatius Alley Cats have won the Greater Cleveland Interscholastic Bowling League (GCIBL) Title. The Wildcats went a perfect 10-0 in regular-season play in the GCIBL, capped by a 3559-3516 win over Brooklyn on January 24.
It is also the third straight season that the Wildcats have gone undefeated in league play. This past weekend, the Cats competed in the Conference Tournament at AMF Brookgate Lanes. They would go on to place first at the tournament, winning the Conference Championship. The JVA Alley Cats would also walk away with a GCIBL title, going undefeated.
After the Conference Tournament, the Wildcats have knocked down a combined 35,188 pins. A recap of team-highs throughout the regular season includes: High Game (1195), High Series (3328), OHSAA High Series (4012), High Baker Game (279), High Baker Series (684). Senior
Mason Melgaard has the high game of 278, and junior
Teague Green has the high series of 714.
As the Wildcats look to break more records heading into OHSAA Tournament play, a new name has emerged on the program record boards for the Best Three-Game Series. Green broke Hayden Voth's '24 record with a score of 757.
Through three seasons, the Wildcats are now 30-0 in GCIBL play and have one more event before heading into OHSAA State play. They will host the Wildcat Baker Bash on Saturday, February 7, at Parma's Roll House at 9 a.m. to put a bow on the season.
Next for the Wildcats will be the OHSAA Sectional Meet at North Woods Lanes in Macedonia. They will be seeking the program's third consecutive Sectional Championship. Last season, the Wildcats finished fourth in the state and had aspirations to return to HP Lanes in Columbus and compete for a State Championship.
