Saint Ignatius Celebrates Spring Signing Day

On Tuesday, May 12, the Wildcats had 23 student-athletes celebrated as they continue their academic and athletic careers at the collegiate level.

OHIO CITY, OH - On Tuesday, May 12, Saint Ignatius High School celebrated 23 student-athletes who officially committed to continue their academic and athletic careers. Our signees will represent the Blue and Gold in Division I, Division II, Division III, Service Academies, and NAIA across 18 colleges and universities.

The rugby program has the most commitments, with seven, and lacrosse follows suit with five.

These 23 student-athletes have made their mark on the Saint Ignatius campus and will look to become integral pieces at the next level.

Charlie Banaszak - The Ohio State University (Rugby)

Charlie Banaszak is one of five Wildcats continuing his academic and rugby career at The Ohio State University.

Banaszak has a decorated rugby career. In his junior season, he played a vital role in the Wildcats 20-17 win in the National Championship against Herriman (UT).

After a 45-21 win over St. Edward in the Rugby Ohio State Championship, Banaszak would be named to the U18 Eagles for Team USA. During the summer of 2025, Banaszak earned experience playing in South America.

The physicality Banaszak brings to a rugby pitch is what separates him from the rest of the pack, and that characteristic was shaped through his time with the Wildcat Hockey program.

In the winter, Banaszak was a member of the Hockey Cats and, in two years on varsity, made the OHSAA State Championship in back-to-back years as a defenseman.

Before heading to Columbus this fall, Banaszak will look to defend a National Title for the Wildcats in Elkhart, Indiana, and lead the Cats to a ninth consecutive Rugby Ohio State Championship. The Buckeyes Rugby Club is a top 25 program in the country for Division I rugby, and Banaszak looks to make an impact right away.

Callaway Connelly - Baldwin Wallace University (Lacrosse)

Coming into the 2026 season, there were questions in net after the graduation of Freddy Webster. Senior Callaway Connelly stepped up, becoming the starter in between the pipes for the Wildcats.

In his senior season, Connelly earned honorable mention from the Midwest Scholastic Association for his efforts as a goalie.

Throughout the 2026 season. Connelly has been phenomenal for the Wildcats. At the end of the regular season, in 18 games played, Connelly made 120 saves, stopping 50% of the shots on net that he faced.

Making it an average of seven saves per game gives the Wildcats offense opportunities to win games.

In the offseason, Connelly would play alongside the Ohio Black Resolute to prepare for the Wildcats' season.

Connelly and company will look to make a deep playoff run for the Wildcats in May. In the fall, Connelly will continue his academic and lacrosse career at Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, a Division III program that competes in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Yellow Jackets are consistently playing for a conference championship.

Thomas Cummings - The Ohio State University (Rugby)

Saint Ignatius Rugby has become one of the most prestigious programs in the country, and earning a starting position is a testament to hard work and dedication, with just 15 spots available on the pitch.

Thomas Cummings is a perfect example of progressing every season with the Wildcats and making the most of his opportunities.

Cummings is a two-year Varsity Gold member, being a part of a National Championship and multiple State Championships.

In the fall for Rugby 7s, Cummings earned Most Valuable Player honors, setting the stage for a great senior season.

In the Spring of 2026, Cummings would be a part of the French International trip, gaining experience against Union Bordeaux Begles and RC Saudrune. The senior would play a major role in the Wildcats 45-0 win over RC Saudrune in Toulouse, France.

Heading down the stretch, Cummings will be a key piece for the Wildcat National Champion run.

He will continue his academic and rugby career at The Ohio State University. Joining multiple former Wildcats on the Rugby pitch in Columbus, Ohio.

Dylan Dykstra - Elmhurst University (Lacrosse)

The Wildcat Face Off Specialist for the 2026 season will be continuing his academic and lacrosse career at Elmhurst University.

Dylan Dykstra has turned into a top FOS in Ohio. After playing alongside Wildcat record holder Jacob Roubic, Dykstra has made the position his own this season for Saint Ignatius.

In his career, the senior has taken over 2,500 faceoffs, making him a seasoned vet going into the 2026 OHSAA Tournament.

In 18 games this season, Dykstra has taken 297 face-offs, winning 56% of his face-offs, earning extra possessions for the Wildcat Attack.

On the possession side of the game, Dykstra has collected 77 ground balls, taking great care of the ball with just a handful of turnovers in the regular season.

In the fall, Dykstra will head to Illinois to join the Blue Jays. A program that plays out of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. Elmhurst is a Division III program that consistently plays for the CCIW title and competes in the National Tournament.

Before heading to Elmhurst, Dykstra will look to help bring the Wildcats their first State Championship in lacrosse.

William French - Colby College (Lacrosse)

William French has been a three-year member of the varsity lacrosse squad. He has established his name on a high-scoring offense in 2026.

Coming into his senior season, French was named a Team Captain for the Wildcats, after earning experience in 2025, winning a Regional Final, and playing in the OHSAA State Championship game.

He would be part of a program that finished the season 18-1-2 and ranked in the top five nationally. In his career, Gray scored seven goals, nine assists, and 23 points.

Gray will continue his academic and soccer career for the Yellow Jackets at Baldwin Wallace University. A Division III program that plays out of the Ohio Athletic Conference. Gray will look to make an impact right away, right down the road in Berea.

Before moving on to the collegiate level, Grisafo will look to be a part of another State Championship team, along with defending the program's National Championship in Elkart, Indiana.

Grisafo will continue his academic and rugby career at The Ohio State University, a program that has become a pipeline of Wildcat Rugby players. The Buckeyes compete in the BIG10 Conference of D1A College Rugby. Grisafo will be joining a top-25 program that regularly competes for a conference and national title.
