Shawn McIntyre '90 Named Head Golf Coach

McIntyre was a member of the coaching staff since 2023, and takes the reins for the golf program.

OHIO CITY, OH - Saint Ignatius High School is proud to announce that Shawn McIntyre '90 has been named the next Head Golf Coach. McIntyre takes the reins after Kevin Neitzel '90 retired after 24 seasons as a coach at Saint Ignatius, which included stints with the golf and basketball programs.

As a student-athlete, McIntyre was a two-year varsity letter winner for the Saint Ignatius golf team. In his senior year with the Wildcats, he would be a key member of the 1989 team that qualified for the State Tournament in Columbus.

McIntyre has been part of the Wildcats' coaching staff since the 2023 season. Helping guide five Wildcat Golfers to earn All-Ohio honors. In 2025, the Wildcats would hoist a District Championship, the program's first since the 2022 season.

"Shawn is someone who truly understands what it means to represent Saint Ignatius High School," says Athletic Director Rory Fitzpatrick '88. "As an alumnus, former student-athlete, and member of our coaching staff, he has already demonstrated a tremendous commitment to our golfers and our program. His passion for mentoring young men, combined with his knowledge of the game and the culture of Saint Ignatius, makes him an outstanding choice to lead Wildcat Golf. We are also incredibly grateful to Kevin [Neitzel] for his 24 years of dedicated service to Saint Ignatius Athletics and the lasting impact he has had on countless student-athletes."

This summer, the golf program will hold tryouts at Pine Hills Golf Course on July 29 and July 30, with the season beginning on Saturday, August 2. The Wildcats will look to defend their District Title and get back to the State Tournament.
