Moderator: Joe Mertens '15
Joe Mertens ’15 returned to his Alma Mater in January 2021 as the Athletic Communication Specialist. Mertens manages and updates ignatiuswildcats.com, runs the Athletic Department’s social media accounts, helps create this media guide, and handles promotions and marketing for all teams, including game day operations for home football games.
Mertens is the lead writer and editor of ignatiuswildcats.com, covering all 16 teams. He also serves as moderator of the Saint Ignatius Broadcast Network and the Sports Information Department. He assists in mentoring students who have a passion/interest in working in sports information, expanding the SIBN to more than just broadcasting, but journalism, graphics, and photography.
While at Saint Ignatius High School, he was a member of the football program and Saint Ignatius Broadcast Network. Mertens graduated from the University of Mount Union in the spring of 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in integrated media and sports business.
Moderator: Jeff McCormick '83
Jeff McCormick ’83 helped found the Saint Ignatius Broadcast Network and Student Sports Information Department in 2008. Before his current role, McCormick spent 13 years at Saint Ignatius as the Director of Advancement Operations and Planned Giving. McCormick would work at Case Western Reserve University for a year and would return to his Alma Mater in 2023. Brendan Gulick '09 began broadcasting games in 2007, and McCormick assisted the students by becoming a moderator of the program in '08. Since then, the SIBN has achieved over 1,000 broadcasts and continues to grow.
McCormick has continued to grow the SIBN tradition, even during the year he was away from Saint Ignatius, helping at home football and basketball games. A proud graduate of Rollins College, McCormick brought an expansive sports broadcasting background to Saint Ignatius.
He currently serves as the Vice President of Marketing, Enrollment and Communications at Saint Ignatius High School.
