TIFFIN, OH - In a robust display of skill and endurance, the Saint Ignatius Wildcats clinched a respectable fourth place at the Tiffin Carnival held at Hedges Boyer Park on September 7, 2024. Competing against formidable teams such as Westerville North, Toledo St. Francis, and Perrysburg, the Wildcats showed strong team spirit and individual prowess. The Cat Pack clinched three consecutive weeks, finishing in the top five.
Highlighting the event for the Wildcats was junior Max Friedrich, who triumphed in the 5K run with an impressive time of 15:32.7, marking a spectacular start to his season. His performance earned him individual accolades and set a high standard for his teammates for the remainder of the season.
The JV squad was split into two teams on Saturday, with one team competing at the Tiffin Carnival and the other at the Walsh Jesuit Pat Ritchie Invite. Both JV teams would place first in both events.
At the Tiffin Carnival, sophomore William Caryl and freshman Ben Mellion set personal records with times of 16:58.1 and 17:00.2, respectively.
At the Pat Ritchie Invite, five Wildcats placed in the top five in the 5K run. Sophomore Lukas Gerber took first with a time of 18:41.70. Following him were the following Wildcats: senior Evan Richter, junior John Paul Pace, sophomore Jackson Wilburn, and sophomore James Kane.
The Wildcats are preparing to continue building their early-season momentum at the upcoming Spartan Invite, which will be held at Boardman High School on September 14, 2024. The team is gearing up to build on its achievements and showcase its talents against new competitors.
