CLEVELAND, OH - On Tuesday night, the Cats took on the Green Bulldogs in their opening match of the 2026 OHSAA Lacrosse State Tournament. The Bulldogs themselves came into this game red hot after a 24-5 win against Stow-Munroe Falls. However, the Cats would dominate this game, winning 18-5.
The Cats would immediately get going, as
Will French opened up the scoring with a goal a minute into play, and the Cats would go up 1-0.
Jack Whalen and
Colin Roubic would score, alongside two more goals from French to complete the hat trick, as the Cats lead 5-0 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter,
Zander Boland, Roubic, and French would each score twice, along with
Peyton Larue notching a goal. After going down 9-0, the Bulldogs were able to score their first goal of the game, with Mount Union commit Tyson Hunka scoring. The Cats would lead 12-1 at halftime.
As the second half came underway, huge win gusts would start to come. The Cats would relieve goalie
Callaway Connelly and put in Brennen Riley for the rest of the second half.
TJ Hulec would score two goals for the Cats, including one almost immediately before the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, a heavy downpour began. Despite the conditions, the Cats were able to notch four goals in this quarter, with Brenden Ulrich scoring twice and both
Charlie Ferber and
Jacob Jarc scoring once. At the final whistle, the Cats would win 18-5, marking their largest win of the season, along with being the most goals they've scored all year long.
After missing the last game vs Olentangy Liberty, French led the Cats in scoring with five goals, with Roubic right behind him, scoring four. In total, nine players would score at least once in this game.
The Cats will continue their postseason this Thursday, the 21st, at 7:00 p.m., at Rocky River High School, where they will host the #16 Riverside Beavers.
